ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores the performance, strengths and limitations, and division of labour emerging during the first five years of coexistence between the Group of Eight (G8) and the Group of 20 (G20). It also examines their evolving relationship and involvement with the BRICS group of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, as well as with civil society and multilateral organizations. The book considers how the future partnership between the G20 and the Group of Seven (G7) or G8 can be improved to their benefit and for the global community as a whole. It offers a clear consensus on some key issues and the basis for a rich, progressive debate on several others. The book provides a basis for several conclusions and resulting recommendations to strengthen the G7/8 and the G20 and their relationships in future years.
