Silent Gifts: An Exploration of Relationality in Contemporary Christian Women’s Chosen Practices of Silence

Silence has been a central practice in spiritual disciplines of religions in the East and West for thousands of years. Despite ongoing recognition of the importance of silence in expressions of Christian faith, references to specific practices of silence within theology are often superficial or insubstantial. Theological discourse has made little attempt to explore the meanings attached to the phrase ‘practices of silence’ as this is used by people to describe aspects of their individual spiritual practice.
