ABSTRACT

Staffing new writers on television shows has changed and evolved as well. John Zaozirny of Bellevue Productions broke down the differences between working in film and working in television, which easily illustrate the challenge of getting a new writer staffed on their very first show: Being a writer in television is like being a mechanic on a train that is currently in motion whereas being a writer in features is like being a mechanic on a car that is in the shop. The higher echelon of television writing, where the responsibilities are plenty, as are the financial rewards. With the golden age of television upon us, one could imagine that staff writing positions have suddenly become widely available, just waiting for talented new scribes to snatch them up. In today's television market the competition for writing staff positions is not limited to scribes with previous experience or current aspirations in the television space.
