ABSTRACT

One-on-one pitch opportunities—usually offered as part of a larger screenwriting conference or convention—first became popular with Screenwriting Expo's Golden Pitch Festival, which has now been defunct for years. In recent years, web content has become a new, exciting and valid path for writers to gain visibility, attention and traction through, as was the case with Erin Cardillo, subject of Screenwriter Spotlight, and Diarra Kilpatrick, subject of Screenwriter Spotlight. While query letters are still read in the industry today, they are now read by individuals with many other to-dos on their list, be they assistants, reps or executives. For industry professionals, The Black List offers regular featured scripts complete with a movie poster designed for a particularly high-scoring, high-performing script, as well as a newsletter featuring loglines for the most highly scored scripts available on the website. For a monthly fee, writers are invited to post a profile of their project, and upload their screenplay or pilot to the website.
