ABSTRACT

Film tourism has been heralded as a positive outcome by destinations featuring in film and television; further emphasizing a film industry, while promoting awareness of a destination. Community wants and needs for their ideal destination has been a growing focus in film tourism, and the importance of satisfying all stakeholders. This chapter aims to review issues for film tourism stakeholders, and provide indicative considerations to manage film impacts through the image generated. It presents a review of film tourism impacts to the identified stakeholder groups. The chapter also presents Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) management implications. Proactive management of the many film tourism impacts can result in successful and sustainable tourism for the destination and community. A film is identified as a means to promote destinations and generate further tourist visitation. The image management is to provide benefits for the community, while educating potential tourists of the actual experiences available at the destination.
