ABSTRACT

Fan consumption and demand for popular culture tourism can take a variety of forms, one of the most well known of which is, perhaps, film tourism. Film tourism is an increasingly complex phenomenon – it depends on a combination of personal characteristics of the viewer, such as emotional responsiveness, education, and cultural background, which makes film tourism a highly personalized experience. Busby and Klug analyzed the forms of film tourism present in the research literature at that time and attempted to summarize the characteristics of the identified forms of film tourism. They suggested that specific push and pull factors of the film-exposed destination affect the forms of film tourism. Film tourism scholars agree that film tourism is a form of cultural tourism. The films construct visual association with a portrayed destination, connecting it to specific visual images, which can include scenic sights, memorable places, or heritage sites.
