ABSTRACT

There have been considerable changes in the world of work and the implications for how work is organised and managed. These changes include growing global economic integration, increasingly competitive markets, new technologies, with the ensuing effects of these changes on labour markets and the organisation of work. To date, much of academic debate on the changes in the organisation of work and labour market has focused on the developed world. Our chapter frames these changes as research questions which labour market institutions and work organisation in Africa pose for Africapitalism as an emerging academic discourse. Our work identifies research and problem areas for the Africapitalism management philosophy, and the role it may play in providing organisations with guidelines for how labour markets and work can be organised for economic and social value creation. We conclude with a research agenda for Africapitalism.
