ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors explore their experiences of co-facilitating a music therapy and dramatherapy cross-modality group for adults with a learning disability. They share their rationale for the group, their different professional approaches and the ways they have worked collaboratively in using the modalities to support the group, particularly in exploring and stretching aspects of themselves. The authors find ways to integrate their approaches of dramatherapy and music therapy would enhance or complement this 'stretching', and explore what supports clients to stay in the moment within each modality. They look at how they have worked with difference through the modalities, and how they use the modalities to support people to be with their difference. The authors hope to utilise music and drama modalities equally, and meet the needs of clients in new ways. They conclude with some thoughts around the liminal space in the context of this group and our joint working relationship.
