ABSTRACT
This chapter is intended to contribute to the further development of an interpretive self-reflexive field practice of archaeology from a broad phenomenological perspective, emphasizing experiential embodied knowledge of the past in the present in interpretative accounts. This is related to an approach that seeks to understand the social basis of knowledge, the manner in which archaeologists actively produce an account of the past in the present and how the experience of excavation itself becomes part of that process.
