ABSTRACT

In the summer of 2012, news reports revealed that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation had funded research on the biometric measurement of student bodies. The US$1.4 million research involved collecting students’ physical reactions to teachers’ lessons by having students wear biometric bracelets (Q Sensors) that run an electric current across the skin to measure changes in electrical charges “as the sympathetic nervous system responds to stimuli.”1 “The sensors detect excitement, stress, fear, engagement, boredom, and relaxation through the skin.”2
