ABSTRACT

The chapter examines https://operationinfinity.org">operationinfinity.org, derived from Simon Vincenzi’s multi-part theatre work Operation Infinity (2007–13). This online ‘documentation’ develops a reflexive critical practice that was already immanent to the theatrical project, whose system of embedded video cameras, sound loops, iterative gesture and movement, voyeuristic spectatorship and the like, generates the work’s own spectacular economy of production and consumption. Here the ‘creative critic’ is posited first as an ambiguous and seemingly impersonal function of the performance itself: at once dissociative, amnesiac – and relentlessly judgemental. The individual spectator then who enters this state may ask what else it is they have to add.
