ABSTRACT

This chapter describes drawing as a mode of thought. Rendering ideas into drawings or diagrams assists in the composition, recollection or understanding of a work of performance. Sometimes a piece starts with an image in the mind, sometimes a drawing of an element or section of material aids recollection later, sometimes a finished performance has a form unfamiliar to its anticipated audience. In each case there is a drawing or diagram that can facilitate communication. The draw-ing is a step between mind and physical manifestation. The invitation to interpretation drawing af-fords allows the accommodation of multiple meanings and understandings.
