ABSTRACT

This chapter considers what is meant by the term 'reflective practitioner' and what this means in practice. It provides the key elements of reflection and how we can use these to inform our practice and so develop as professionals. The chapter considers how working with others supports reflective practice, and the use of reflection within a team approach and provides an overview of some of the key theories related to reflective practice. It explores some of the characteristics of reflective practice and provides an overview of some of the models of reflective practice. The chapter considers how we can develop individual reflective practice and also considers how we can work with others to develop reflective practice. It provides an understanding of the importance of reflective practice to professional development. There are several ways of reflecting, which are all valuable but which may be used for different purposes and in different situations.
