ABSTRACT

Roughly 4 per cent of individuals in Canada aged fifteen to twenty-four have some form of disability (Statistics Canada, 2015), which is about 550,000 individuals in Ontario, Canada. I searched for dance studios that offered inclusive dance programs (as advertised online) and found less than thirty in the entire province. Not only are there too few programs, many individuals are not in close enough proximity to attend the programs in existence. The narrative in this section explores the interaction between dance and self-identity experienced by four individuals with special needs, specifically focusing on three programs available in Ontario, Canada.
