ABSTRACT

Recent years have witnessed an increasing interest on the part of performing arts professionals in the region of Catalonia in Spain engaging in work in educational, health and community settings. It was in this context that, in 2014, the Barcelona-based Institut del Teatre (Theatre Institute) set up the Observatory of the Applied Performing Arts and later commissioned a report to map trends and needs in this area – addressing training, professional development, production, networking, policy and knowledge management. This article presents the main findings and recommendations emerging from the research, and illustrates them with local projects of inclusive dance practice.
