ABSTRACT

The essay or report can be graded on parameters such as how well the participant integrated and developed topics raised in the group work, if they appear to have gained an understanding of "media society" and of "human/animal relations". Ecomedia literacy integrates principles from media literacy, ecoliteracy, and environmental communication. If the workshop is too homogenous, the facilitator can introduce contrasting eco media histories from other people. If the group is too diverse and participants have few common experiences, they should bring many visual examples of the media contents and technologies that have played an important role in their lives. When participants have their personal media history sheet and visuals prepared, they work in groups to make posters representing highlights from members' experiences. Reflecting on media for adults, if participants note that animals and nature usually serve as a mere backdrop for human activity, this can be a moment to introduce them to the debates around anthropocentrism.
