ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents a comprehensive understanding of the plight of children classified as vulnerable in sub-Saharan Africa. It highlights the HIV/AIDS crisis in sub-Saharan Africa and presents an overview of the adult mortality and resultant disproportionate numbers of orphaned children in the region. A number of observations emerged regarding the situation of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in sub-Saharan Africa. The fragmented efforts currently undertaken by well-meaning individuals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other entities, while laudable, may not be effective in addressing the challenge of OVC in sub-Saharan Africa. The polio eradication initiative presents the global community with a model to draw upon. There is no mechanism by which countries may be held responsible for neglecting their responsibilities towards OVC.
