Mental health treatment for serving UK military personnel
This chapter equips readers with vital knowledge about UK mental health provision within a serving military context. Beginning with an historical perspective, the chapter describes how services have evolved into the current provision.
After describing the wider role of Defence Medical Services, the chapter describes the services and processes involved in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and discusses the interventions that are offered at all three levels. Readers become aware of what psychological health provision exists in an operational context at all stages of deployment and within the processes of hospitalisation, decompression and aeromedical evacuation.
Specialist treatment and rehabilitation services are also discussed as well as the processes of support offered to those being discharged from the services on psychological health grounds.
