Trauma and dissociation

An insider’s view
WithRichard Kidgell

Written as a personal narrative, this chapter presents the author’s experience of psychological dissociation as a consequence of trauma. This includes sensory dislocation from the external world, emotional detachment, lost memories and flashbacks of the past. The benefits gained from art therapy are discussed from first-hand experience, and the meaning of personal imagery is decoded. Art therapy is seen to foster a sense of reintegration and reconnection.
