Understanding the Prevalence of Violence against Women in New Zealand: Implications for Restorative Justice

This chapter presents information from the New Zealand Violence Against Women (NZ VAW) Study, the largest study ever undertaken in New Zealand to assess the prevalence and health consequences of violence against women.1 The information is significant because it comes from face-to-face interviews with a sample of women who are representative of women in the country as a whole. As such, it provides an overview of the types of violence that women have experienced, irrespective of whether or not this experience was reported.
