ABSTRACT

When we learn the law, we learn emotionally; further, what we are learning has emotional content. Teachers of the law can tap into the affectivity of both the mode and the content of learning more or less effectively. Certainly, the learning experience can be greatly enhanced by teachers becoming more aware of the role of the emotions in learning law. The devil, of course, is in the detail. The focus of this chapter is on bringing out some of these details by way of offering an account of the relationship between legal understanding and the affective imagination.
