ABSTRACT
Malcolm Reading, a professional competition organizer with experience in organizing competitions for public awarding authorities, as well as for private clients, shows awareness of the in-situ character of competitions and accordingly shapes and adapts his organizational work to the specific needs of particular local situations and circumstances. Malcolm Reading Consultants (MRC) provides pre-project services, briefing and strategic advice on capital projects in the UK and worldwide. Over the last decade, MRC's competitions have brought emerging designers to world attention, including Thomas Heatherwick, Amanda Levete and Steven Holl. Malcolm Reading, MRC's Founder and Chairman, trained as an architect and moved from designing to commissioning designers with his appointment as Director of Design at the British Council in the early nineties. Today, MRC includes eight staff members with varied backgrounds in architecture, urban design, graphic design, web design and journalism. Additionally, several staff members have both commercial and public sector experience.
