Woven Fabric: The Role of Online Professional Communities in Urban Renewal and Competitiveness
In the past ten years regions and metropolitan areas have been selected as the core of policies for innovation and competitiveness. Specifically, metropolitan areas have been involved in renovation processes focused on the development of new economic value-added functions, new professional skills and on the attraction of new talents (OECD 2006). According to this perspective, policies oriented to foster growth at the local level should be improved by integrating the set of interventions with a new approach. The regeneration of cities or regions is not only oriented to reduce social disadvantages or unemployment; rather, those places – and specifically at the metropolitan scale – represents relevant loci where social dynamics merge with economic processes, by opening new opportunities for innovation rooted into creative contexts.
