ABSTRACT
This chapter is intended as a broad overview of copyright and data protection and is not a comprehensive guide. It is important to note that nothing in this chapter is intended to be legal advice and that the author is not legally qualified, although he does have experience of dealing with copyright issues over a number of years while working as a legal information professional at the Law Society of England and Wales and at a large city law firm. The author is also the BIALL representative on the Library and Archives Copyright Alliance (LACA). I should acknowledge that have learned a great deal about copyright from my fellow members of LACA, for which I am grateful. At the end of the chapter there is a short bibliography and a list of useful websites which the reader looking into any specific issues in more depth may find useful.
