ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide public bike services and to promote biking as a sustainable transportation mode in the City of Ames, Iowa. It attempts to develop a practical site selection tool for bike stations that can link academic studies and field practices and introduces the study area. Academic studies tend to be more focused on technological models, while field practices tend to involve public participation more directly through surveying, online interactive mapping, and other instruments. The chapter presents a literature review which focusing on bike-share programs and bike stations and conceptual framework, which including the geographic information system modeling. Public participation is crucial in transportation planning processes. Transportation agencies should ensure clarity, accessibility, and opportun ities for the public to provide input during all stages of transportation planning. The chapter focuses on the public participation component and the conclusions and limitations of the study.
