Conclusion: Stages and Scales of Urban Resilience Strategies
ByGary Sands, Pierre Filion, Mark Skidmore
Pages 10

The book provides a compendium of chapters, each of which is motivated by recent natural disasters affecting urban areas, with the exception of one historical catastrophe. The cases cast light on responses directed at four distinct stages of natural disasters and their consequences: preparedness; interventions taking place during and immediately after the disaster event; temporary shelter and other relief efforts; and long-term reconstruction (see Harrald, 2006). In their interpretation of each of the respective cases, the different chapters emphasize the role of specific stages.
