“Enriched by Open Borders and a Lively Variety of Languages, Cultures and Regions”: Cooperation and Integration in the EU in spite of Cultural Diversity
After the sixth enlargement, the European Union counts 27 member states with a population of 483 million inhabitants. This is more than the USA and Russia together. Croatia will probably follow in a few years, and also with Turkey (70 million people) membership negotiations have been opened. All West-Balkan states have been recognized as candidate countries. It is unlikely that the row will stop there. At least, the governments of Ukraine, Moldavia and Georgia have already declared their wish to join.
