ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the synergy and connections between climate change, environmental deterioration, worsening socio-economic indicators and the pre-war aspects of the equally poor security situation. Impact of climate change on the daily life of Yemenis, particularly rural Yemenis, described to understand better the extent to which the country's changing natural environment, increasingly unpredictable weather and social transformation are reducing people's security. Water is the fundamental issue affecting the future of Yemen. Yemen is almost exclusively dependent on groundwater. The renewable aquifers depend on annual and also more long-term rainfall. One of the most common indicators/symptoms of climate change has been the changing pattern of rainfall. Yemen is on the edge of the monsoon zone, and its rainy seasons in the highlands are determined by the monsoons. In conclusion, the chapter provides suggestions of activities and approaches which could contribute to improvements and ensure that Yemenis have a better life.
