Gender does not mean “women” but the latter must be given special attention since it is their contribution to migration processes that are still largely ignored (Anthias and Lazarides 2000, 5). Contemporary globalization and migration involve the increasing incorporation of migrant women from the South into the global capitalist activities of the North with major implications for their legal and substantive citizenship.
