Cross Intermediation? Policy, Creative Industries and Cultures Across the EU
This chapter contributes to the holistic approach to intermediation taken in this collection by exploring how people and places are connected into the creative economy at a European level. Its concerns are framed around Cross Innovation, a project supported by EU funds and which promotes policies, generates research and initiates practical measures seeking productive interactions, or ‘spill-overs’, between the creative industries and other sectors (See: cross-innovation.eu). The project is founded on a partnership consisting of 11 metropolitan centres across Europe: Birmingham, Amsterdam, Rome, Berlin, Tallinn, Warsaw, Vilnius, Stockholm, Linz, Lisbon, and Pilsen. As we outline below, Cross Innovation is therefore representative of a range of initiatives that prompt questions regarding the role of culture and creative industries as part of the ‘European project’.
