Evaluation, Photography and Intermediation: Connecting Birmingham’s Communities
This chapter discusses the evaluation of a participatory photography project, Some Cities, which took place in Birmingham, UK, in 2014. Some Cities consisted of a series of workshops, public talks, courses on photography along with an online archive and an exhibition at the Library of Birmingham. It was funded from a range of sources, including Arts Council England, University of Birmingham, Birmingham City Council and several local arts organisations. The chapter uses the evaluation to make three points: about participation in art projects; about the relationship between identity and evaluation; and finally about cultural intermediaries.
