ABSTRACT

The Product Impact Tool aims to make a contribution to translating theories of behaviour-influencing technology into design practice. It does so by providing examples of the effects of technology on people to help analyze and redesign technical products. The introduction of a public transport e-paying system (OV chip card) in the Netherlands serves as a case to illustrate how the Product Impact Tool can contribute to the development and introduction of new design products and systems. The Product Impact Tool helps to improve the usability and user acceptance of products as well as to address social and ethical questions concerning innovations.
