ABSTRACT

From a medical perspective, this chapter discusses some consequences for life-time health of two moments in the human life span – birth and puberty/adolescence, setting out the system by which predictive, preventive and personalised medicine (PPPM) can model disease and treatment over the life-span. PPPM centres are the vision of the European Association for Predictive, Preventive and Personalised Medicine (EPMA). Personalisation of healthcare is relevant to policymakers for its alleged ability to reduce healthcare costs, and to individuals regardless of age, gender, religion and nationality for its promise to improve their personal health. From a design perspective, the chapter builds on the patient participation that is key to PPPM in order to outline a 'human-centred' approach to the modelling. The specific challenge for multidisciplinary communication is the design of media to facilitate effective interaction amongst professional groups in PPPM. The design challenges in defining and building the professional interactome are grounded in bioinformatics.
