ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the achievements made in the scope of disability management in Belgium. In Belgium, job retention and reintegration of employees with long-term health problems and/or functional limitations needs to become a priority, because it can be a partial response to the problems the labour market is confronted by today, which are caused by the ageing of the working population and the new work situations which cause new risks and challenges for workers and employers. In order to increase the employability of employees with long-standing health problems or disabilities, a specific action plan was set up by the DM@Work project to introduce the disability management methodology in the Belgian context. Data from the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance the federal institute for health insurance demonstrates that mainly older workers are leaving the job market following long-standing health problems or disabilities.
