Pages 18

This chapter describes the development and validation of the PC-based MUARC Driver Distraction Test designed to measure simulated driving performance while the driver is performing a secondary task. The chapter discusses the logic behind the development of the test, including the principles that were used to guide its design, as well as the results of a pilot validation study. The findings from this study were consistent with previous research and theory and were consistent with those obtained with the Lane Change Test. The results did, however, highlight a number of refinements that were necessary to improve the validity and utility of the test.
