ABSTRACT

The Black Sea region is an area strategically located at the crossroads of European, Eurasian and Middle East security spaces. The dissolution of the USSR at the end of the Cold War and the emergence of new independent states in the region have made the delimitation of the borders of the Black Sea region very complex. This explains why there are competing views with regard to the Black Sea region demarcation; some are based on geographical understanding of the region, while others add geopolitical and strategic grounds to justify the inclusion of more countries or the exclusion of others.
