Beyond the East Asian Grand Division: Imagining an East Asian Peace Belt of Jeju-Okinawa-Taiwan Islands

East Asia went through a century-long era of imperialism from the mid-nineteenth century to the middle of the 1940s. That imperialist century was closed only with the end of the Pacific war, a hegemonic conflict between the United States and Japan. I believe it is appropriate to characterize the ensuing international order of the region as a system of East Asian Grand Division, which continues to be relevant up to the present (Lee 2004; 2006, 41-83).
