John Polkinghorne on Three Scientist–Theologians

ByIan G. Barbour

In 1996 John Polkinghorne published Scientists as Theologians: A Comparison of the Writings of Ian Barbour, Arthur Peacocke and John Polkinghorne.1 He continued the comparison of our views in several subsequent volumes.2 In response, I will first examine the common ground the three of us share and then the differences among us. I will close by looking at the cultural and intellectual contexts within which we have been writing and offer some conclusions for the future of the science/religion dialogue.
