ABSTRACT

Dualism, of some sort or another, has deep roots within the Christian tradition and had been the dominant anthropological position of Christians for most of church history. Recently, however, numerous theologians and Christian philosophers have abandoned this view in favour of a materialist view of human beings. Thinkers like Trenton Merricks, Peter van Inwagen, Nancey Murphy, Lynne Baker and Kevin J. Corcoran,1 to name just a few, have suggested that a materialist view of man is compatible with the Christian faith.
