ABSTRACT

Because Latin America is such a vast and varied region of the world, it is necessary to focus our attention in this chapter on Anglican developments in what was until recently known as the Province of the Southern Cone. Since 2014 this part of the Anglican Communion has been re-named as ‘The Anglican Province of South America’. It includes the countries of Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile. Also, without implying any difference in the significance of Anglican mission in these different republics, we will give a fuller account of the growth of the churches in Northern Argentina and Peru, and then describe more briefly the evolving situation in the other Dioceses in the Province. Except in our review of earlier history, we make no reference to Anglican mission in Brazil and the other Republics of Latin America. They require separate study.
