ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the efforts undertaken by the Health Ministers’ Council in the Gulf countries in the field of patient safety, given that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was one of ten organizations to prioritize patient safety since 2005. Current activities in the GCC countries, as well as collaborative efforts with regional and international organizations, are highlighted with the aim of understanding efforts designed to help disseminate the concept, propagate the culture, and support the promotion of patient safety in all aspects of the healthcare systems. Future perspectives are discussed and recommendations are made in an effort to overcome underlying challenges in this vital field.
