ABSTRACT

A perspective from the community, presenting some of the issues faced by Castleford Heritage Trust in working to reclaim, use and celebrate our local heritage in changing times and landscapes.

Introduction After 15 years of working to deliver a wide variety of community heritage projects, as we all attempt to manoeuvre through the changing demands of these difficult times, Castleford Heritage Trust (CHT) has embarked on its most ambitious and demanding project to date. Castleford Heritage Trust purchased Queen’s Mill on 17 April 2013 (Figure 11.1). It is the world’s largest stoneground flour mill and was previously known as Allinson’s, being the home of Dr Allinson’s famous whole-wheat, stoneground flour, which has the ‘Wi’ nowt taken out’ catchphrase.
