ABSTRACT

To examine the relationship between heritage and democracy – how heritage promotes qualities such as security, good governance and the balance of power (grounded on common ideals such as ‘freedom, equality, brotherhood’) – is a demanding task. The preceding chapters provide, however, a good basis for examining the relationship between heritage and democracy in presenting a wide range of topics and debates on how heritage is currently being activated in Nordic countries. Exemplified by a wide range of heritage issues, the chapters show that Nordic heritage is a complex field of study.
