ABSTRACT
Introduction This chapter provides a working definition of transport accessibility through the identification of a multi-faceted ‘framework’. This offers a lens through which to analyse and evaluate the influence and impact of current and predicted socioeconomic trends on transport accessibility across the EU. Such an analysis provides the necessary contextual knowledge of EU-wide transport accessibility, to assist the development of strategies for implementing and optimising transport systems more broadly. More specifically, it also informs the development and testing of the METPEX customer satisfaction tool and informs the identification of target groups for the tool (see Chapter 9).
