ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study that provides an overview on the survival of a small family-owned manufacturing firm (MF) during the civil war in Lebanon and up to 2015 with an emphasis on the role of education, leadership, and internal culture in achieving positive change that led to the development of the business. The leadership style after the war emphasized achievement of predetermined objectives. The internal culture changed. It became more formal. Employees lost commitment and loyalty to the business. The business underwent a lot of positive change due to the transformational leadership style of the son and the strong internal culture of the family and the business. Even though the business is still profitable, the current situation in the country has had its toll on everybody including MF. The chapter argues that firms must effectively implement the change management process, and human resource development.
