The Liquidity and Solidity of Contemporary Social Reality: The Example of Social Inclusion Policies

In his recent book, Europe: An Unfinished Adventure, Zygmunt Bauman puts forward a definition of the European way of practising culture, which would serve admirably as a programme for the present chapter:

My purpose here, indeed, is to discuss some observations gathered in the course of research I have carried out, using the concept of ‘liquidity’ formulated by Bauman, and, at the same time, to discuss this concept itself, reflecting what impact it has had on my way of looking at the contemporary social world.
