ABSTRACT

Team members share and coordinate situation awareness. By talking about what each knows viewing and handling artifacts together, they become mutually aware of the same states and conditions. Presentations are easy to video record so it might seem that sending digitally recorded presentations is a good way for teams distributed in space and time to keep in synch and share situation awareness. Recordings lose some of the spontaneous interactivity between live presenter and live audience; but there remain many channels for information sharing and social engagement. Presentations are a key resource in team coordination. A presenter is not only a communicator of ideas and views, but they help to coalesce team conceptions, share situation awareness and helps to shape the way different players on a team understand what is going on and what their role is in joint activity.
