ABSTRACT

This chapter provides how the Collaborative Operational and Research Environment (CORE) testbed and tools are used in support of the spectrum of research. Geographically distributed collaboration teams face additional burdens. Co-located teams have the advantage of real time collaboration. The Cognitive and Automation Research Lab at Naval Air Systems Command was designed to incorporate the entire collaborative research spectrum, thereby incorporating a series of studies around both Naturalistic Decision-Making and traditional empirical research. A more practical solution is to develop a suite of integrated tools to support the different types of collaboration problem domains and their associated cognitive processes. The CORE Tool Suite incorporates mature Collaborative Knowledge Interoperability products into an integrated set of collaboration tools for testing in all phases of the research spectrum. A prototype of the tool suite will ultimately be developed for testing, using configurable, but domain-specific, embedded scenarios.
