ABSTRACT

Globalization and technological innovations have facilitated the movement not only of goods but also of people engaging in education and employment. A more recent development in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region is its economic integration, which is expected to take place in 2015. This will increase even more the movement of people within the region and will definitely increase the diversity of the workforce in organizations located in the Philippines, particularly in terms of ethnicity and religion. Increased mobility has indeed been found to increase diversity of religions brought about by migration (Warner, 1998). The integration will also increase the number of foreign companies that will do business in the Philippines. Thus there is more pressure on organizations in the Philippines to be prepared in addressing the needs of a more diverse workforce. The pressure comes from at least two fronts: from the workforce themselves in terms of religious accommodation (Borstoff, 2011) and from the increasing influence of practices of foreign companies locating in the Philippines.
