The gang rape case' in Oulu shows how a local incident can feed into national debates on immigration and multiculturalism. The growing effect of the media on politics through its capacity to create and frame societal issues, as well as provide much-needed publicity for politicians has led many researchers to speak about the mediatization' of politics.
